Used on all major AC/DC recordings and tours since the band started in 1973, Angus Young's 1968 SG Standard has produced some of the best 'Big Rock' guitar sounds ever created. Now this limited edition Angus Young SG captures that tone, look and feel, with updated additions requested by Angus himself.
Product Ref: 31892
The body of each Angus Young SG is crafted from solid Mahogany tonewood with an offset centre seam. Following the classic shape of the SG standard. the Angus Young Standard has the same unmistakable twin cutaways and and beveled edges.
Angus has always preferred heavy-sounding axes that are light in weight, the SG Standard is known for its lightness. The medium-density mahogany body provides excellent resonance and superior sustain, offering a rich, round and warm tone with plenty of high-end sheen and a good midrange presence.
The sleek contours, devilishly pointy horns and no-nonsense electronics make the SG one of the most recognisable guitars in Rock history, played by one of Rock's most distinctive characters for over 40 years.
"I think it was the little devil horns... I've still got it and it's still my favourite guitar of all time."
- Angus Young, New Zealand Herald, 2010
Custom-finished in Aged 'Angus' Cherry, the SG has a gloss nitrocellulose finish with a pre-worn look which offers a smooth and comfortable playing feel. The finish encourages the natural vibration of the instrument to achieve a purer tone.
Three pieces of top-grade maple make up the neck, glued at a 2.5 degree angle. As a strong wood, Maple is the ideal material for the thin neck carve on the Angus Young Standard, perfectly matched to the profile ofhis own original '68 SG Standard. An ebony fingerboard enhances note attack and articulation. A hardwearing, humidity-resistant wood, the fingerboard is adorned with lightning bolt inlays, custom appointed by Angus, and 22 immaculately dress and polished frets. The 12-inch radius of the fingerboard provides smooth note-bending capabilities and eliminates 'dead' or 'choked out' notes.
With a classical Peg head and Maple neck, you can expect exceptional tonal richness and resonance from the neck with outstanding string clarity definition from the maple.
Equipped with Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates pickups, which includes a standard unit in the neck position and a bridge-position unit that has been modified for higher output. Alnico II magnets produce a smooth, sweet tone. Wax-potted pickup coils enable them to withstand high volume levels without producing annoying feedback.
Individual volume controls are used for each pickup, which use high-quality CTS potentiometers. Tone controls are bypassed just like on Angus Young's original. A three-way toggle switch pickup selector also features along with a 1/4" super heavy duty construction output jack which holds your guitar cable securely in place. The SG Cooperates particularly well with overdriven tube amp power sections, whether you're cranking out chunky power chord riffs or kicking out screaming solos.
Finished with chromed Schaller tuners, an ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge allowing you to adjust the string height and fine-tune intonation in minutes, a Zamak stop-bar tailpiece and unique aluminium strap buttons, all the hardware on the Angus Young SG is pre-aged.
