The Aphex exciter has been used industry-wide since its introduction in 1975. Used in a variety of studios, broadcasting facilities, nightclubs and arenas around the world, the Exciter has been meticulously developed with its patented technology to create the ultimate in audio enhancement effects. The Exciter works similar to an EQ, in that you can focus on and enhance selected frequencies. However, whilst an EQ works by boosting said frequencies, resulting in a perceived loss or attenuation of other frequencies, the Aphex Exciter simply brings out the desired frequencies without adding gain. This results in a much higher quality sound with significant improvements over articulation and clarity. The unit features two independent channels that are equipped with controls for adjusting the Tune, Harmonics, and Mix. This selection of controls provides you with the ability to bring out the perfect amount of detail in your sound, increasing articulation for spoken word and vocals, adding punch and presence to instrumentation, and adding power and sparkle to mixes.
The Aphex Exciter is more than just an across-the-board frequency enhancement unit, it also features a function called Optical Big Bottom. This unique function delivers deep, powerful low-frequency punch to your sound, but still maintaining an articulate and clear response without unnecessary level boosting that tradition EQ units rely on. A deeper and more resonant bass response with a tighter and more defined overall sound dramatically improves the overall sound quality of your audio with a balanced frequency spectrum, whilst simultaneously prevent possible speaker damage from over-boosted low frequencies.
Recording, Mixing, & Post-Production Work
The Aphex Aural Exciter spent most of its 35 years being used in recording environments such as professional studios, with thousands of legendary recordings featuring that unique Aphex sound quality. Engineers and producers have relied on the Exciter to create articulate and tight recordings since the birth of the unit in 1975 across a wide variety of musical styles and instrumentation. From pop to rock, and jazz to metal, the Exciter can be heard in countless modern recordings, as well as its extensive use in the TV and film world.
Broadcasting
Not only has the Exciter found its home in professional recording studios, the world of broadcasting has also made great use of the intuitive unit for bringing out the clarity and definition of multiple spoken word and narration broadcasts throughout the years. With the potential to deliver crisp, clear signal, both for recorded audio and live sound, the Exciter is capable of meeting the demands of even the most challenging broadcasting environments, fighting off the unwanted sonic characteristics of heavy compression and dramatically boosted EQs. The Exciter and its patented technology is designed to create definition and space in a world of sound that relies heavily on achieving the absolute best in sonic clarity.
Live Sound
The Exciter is also incredibly useful for front-of-house applications. Capable of bringing out the best in any individual player, the unit can add dimension to an entire live mix, delivering crystal clear sound throughout the venue. The controls are easily adjusted, allowing for plenty of adaptability based on variations in venues and surroundings. Monitor engineers can also reap the benefits of the excited, creating clear and defined headphone mixes that avoid frequency spikes that could potentially cause damage to our sensitive aural systems. With a greater perceived loudness, monitor mixes can be created at lower levels whilst still being able to be heard clearly to ensure the absolute best stage performances.
Sound Installations & DJs
With a clear home in almost any venue for almost any situation, it makes perfect sense for the Exciter to be an ideal choice for any installation requiring a more permanent setup. The Exciter is designed to provide exceptional audio clarity with an intuitive control layout and channel configuration. DJs can benefit from the greater loudness for large events, whilst the Optical Big Bottom delivers incredibly tight and defined bass response with addictive resonance. Reducing the need for potentially speaker-damaging EQ, the Exciter is perfect for permanent and temporary sound installations such as nightclubs, arenas, and festival stages.
