Key Features
The MXL 440 Versatile Studio Condenser Microphone is a high-quality large-diaphragm condenser microphone that's ideal for capturing vocals, piano or electric and acoustic guitar. Constructed to meet the needs of the modern producer, engineer or musician, the MXL 440 features an integrated ultra-low noise FET preamp, ultra-high SPL rating and signal-to-noise ratio of 130dB and 80dB respectively. This offers the ability to capture even the most dynamic of instrument performance.
With a slight bias in the upper treble region, the MXL 440 has a bright and airy sound, ideal for adding brightness to dull instruments such as bass guitar or low-tuned acoustic drums. Where large-diaphragm condensers typically tend to shine is on vocal recordings, and the MXL 440 is no different. A cardioid polar pattern offers excellent off-axis rejection, creating a more focussed sound that's ideal for vocalists for putting you at the front and centre of every recording.

An essential tool for any budding singer, producer or engineer, a large-diaphragm condenser will often be the cornerstone of any recording session. Ideal for recording just about any sound source, the MXL 440 is versatile enough to be your go-to microphone for any recording session. From capturing the depth and sparkle of a full-range 88-key piano to a dynamic vocal and everything in between, the 440's expertly tuned response allows you to record each and every nuance in your performance. A subtle bias in the treble region from 5kHz onwards is ideal for adding brightness to dull-sounding instruments, whereas the extended low range down to 30Hz features a subtle boost at 100Hz to increase the power and fundamentals of your bass.
In true large diaphragm fashion, the MXL 440 boasts an excellent signal-to-noise ratio of up to 80dB with a maximum SPL of 130dB. This means that even if you are recording extremely dynamic performances on loud acoustic instruments such as a full drum kit, the 440 will evenly capture each frequency even up to extremely loud levels with no distortion or noise.
One of the main functions of the MXL 440 is to be used on main vocals. The tight cardioid polar pattern paired with the integrated FET preamp effectively removes any outside and off-axis interference whilst providing a crystal clear signal path. Hear your vocals the way they sound in the room with a larger than life feel and be inspired to perform to your best with the MXL 440.
