PRS Silver Sky Limited Edition, "Dead Spec" Overview
The PRS Silver Sky Limited Edition, "Dead Spec" is a totally unique twist on Mayer's favourite PRS workhorse. Designed for his recent tour with Dead & Company, the Dead Spec is an homage to Jerry Garcia's famous "alligator" guitar tones, and features significant spec changes to over Mayer's usual signature. These begin with a lightweight swamp ash body finished in a premium Moc Sand satin nitro - giving the Dead Spec a nimble feel and an unbeatable allure.
But the hardware is where the big changes are - the standard jack is swapped for a brass plate and Alembic Blaster preamp. This can be used as a straight boost, or used to add in 3-14db of adjustable gain - helping your sound punch above or counteract the effects of long stage cables. Added to that is the piano-like tones afforded by a brass nut and retainer bar, ensuring excellent string separation and definition, as well as additional warmth in every note. But those notes need extra sustain to truly stand out, which is why PRS have adapted their Patented Gen III tremolo bridge into a surface mounted hardtail, so you'll get maximum resonance with every pluck of the strings. As Mayer himself said - this guitar is simply too good not to share!

Designed specifically for John's tour with Dead & Company in 2023, the Dead Spec is a spin on his traditional Silver Sky signature - with appointments aimed at capturing Jerry Garcia's legendary "alligator" tones. The significant changes include a new swamp ash body, a brass jack plate and nut, a string retainer bar, a redesigned surface-mounted bridge, and the all-important Alembic Blaster preamp.
Alembic Blaster preamp
Give your tone your shot of sonic oomph. The Alembic Blaster preamp can give you a straight boost to lift your guitar above a mix, or introduce an adjustable 3-14db of gain to counteract the capacitance of longer stage cables. And as it's fitted with a brass plate, it looks pretty cool too - almost like the original Alligator!
Brass nut and retainer bar
There's nothing quite like it. A brass nut introduces a warmth and resonance to your tone like no other material, and on the Dead Spec it teams with a retainer bar to give you a clear and vocal string separation that'll give your playing extra definition.
