Analog enhanced
Celebrated for the distinctive warmth and colour that analog brings to the table, Arturia have painstakingly analysed each micro-interaction and part using their state-of-the-art Phi and TAE analog-modelling techniques to bring the BI-TRON to life. It's not only indistinguishable from the original hardware, but it's also been enhanced for modern players and performers to provide even more flexibility!
The magic of the dual LFO and phaser setup is augmented with the addition of elaborate routing options available inside BI-TRON. Rather than being two static pedals attached in a meaningless way, BI-TRON's emulated circuits feature a multitude of routing options including mono, stereo, series or parallel - unlocking the behaviour of the pedal whilst offering more spatial character to explore.
The second pedal comes complete with its own range of controls, independently or synchronised to the first. This can be used as an alternative source of modulation by selecting a different LFO sweeping filter waveshape and different depth ranges and feedback amounts of unique intermodulation! The Phaser BI-TRON also includes an envelope follower, input high-pass filter and the possibility to control the number of poles in the all-pass filter stage from two to 12!
The world's first electric guitar effect
A trademark effect for electric guitar, the Phaser BI-TRON encompasses the signature sweeping and spaced-out sound you've heard on classic records since the '60s. Although the roots are firmly within the realm of electric guitar, the sound of a Phaser BI-TRON can be heard on many other instruments, including electric pianos and clavinets, closely emulating the sound of historic rotary speakers inside electric organs.
Undoubtedly, an electric guitar is where you'll find a home base for this kind of effect. Used as a creative effect to add dimension to a solo, and help sustain long-held notes with movement that's not possible with playing techniques like vibrato or to use to enhance the ambience and space of a clean guitar part underneath a solo vocal are all excellent starting points to explore.
Most key instruments such as the aforementioned electric piano and clavinet can also benefit from the swirling motion that Arturia's Phaser BI-TRON can implement. Ideal for use in jazzy solo passages, adding subtle swirling for a unique effect or can be combined with a fully wet reverb effect to put the piano in a different room from the listener for a huge depth of field for more experimental electronic styles.
Powered by technology
Using proprietary modelling algorithms, Phaser BI-Tron can recreate the iconic instruments down to the component parts to create unrivalled realism and immersion. Unmatched in analog emulation, BI-TRON is powered by TAE and Phi technologies. TAE offers component-level modelling to accurately present the characteristics and behaviour of the instrument, whilst Phi's state-of-the-art physical modelling brings the acoustic properties into the virtual world for hyper-realism. The result is truly a next-level sound that is indistinguishable from the original to add to your productions.
Reviews
"The new Arturia Modulators blew me away, providing the classic sound and feel of the units I'd expect, but with the option of deep-diving into the expanded control section and fine-tuning them beyond the parameters of the original units. Class acts!" - Emre Ramazanoglu (Engineer / Mixer - Noel Gallagher, Carly Rae Jepsen, Sia)
"When I heard how the three modulators added a new layer to my mix I was sold. From simple modulations that make your beats feel wider to extreme modulations that take your sound to a whole new level of experimentation, the trio has you covered." - Jacob Wilkinson-Smith (Producer / Recording Engineer)
"Arturia have nailed it with the latest release, which has managed to capture the depth and musicality of some of the hardware in incredible detail. An absolute joy to use." - Tim Bazell (Mix Engineer)
"I used to think that these are 3 very peculiar effects that you either love or hate: Chorus, Phaser and Flanger. Been using Dimension-D and I have been experimenting with Phaser and Flanger a lot lately which is something I would never do." - Thiago Baggio (Recording / Mixing Engineer)
