How does it work?
Tomofon converts audio files into a large set of oscillating waves, which are mapped into pitch zones where each wave represents one layer. Because each zone is populated with waves, the unique synth engine is capable of morphing between both layers and zones. This means that all transitions between zones and layers are seamlessly continuous. The structure that this process develops is what Klevgrand calls an Audio Model, and gives Tomofon its distinctive dynamic properties and characteristic sound.
Sound editing
The synth engine offers a comprehensive range of features with an emphasis on the musical and sonic possibilities of how to play back an Audio Model. Enjoy the depth of powerful pitch and layer depth envelopes with full ADSR editing that allows you to precisely shape your sound over time with a range covering stabbing leads to graceful drawn-out pads.
Several LFOs, including sample and hold with randomness, offer dynamic movement to the development of your sound and can push Tomofon into extreme sonic territories. Utilise the included modulation matrix to enjoy full integration between all parts of the synth engine and two MIDI CC channels, Velocity, and Keymap.
Performance capabilities
Boasting several exciting performance capabilities, with up to 4 doubling voices with separate pitch, pan and level Tomofon is perfect for bringing a distinctive edge to your live shows. Tomofon offers monophonic playback with separate glide times for pitch and velocity that bring your performance to life with expressive movement. Enjoy polyphonic legato playback, where started notes sync envelopes with currently playing notes, for a cohesive sound throughout your performance.
A full filtering section offers modulation possibilities to shape your sound throughout a performance or held note, granting you clear expression over time.
Highlight, shape and exaggerate your sound with post-fx reverb, delay and EQ that bring your sound to life through space and time.
What's new in V1.2?
Has now been enriched with more creative and valuable capabilities.
The flagship Klevgrand synthesizer has received a new update to enhance the functionality and sound performance capabilities tenfold. An exciting update for all Tomofon users, it has been enriched with more creative capabilities with the introduction of full MPE support, assignable "body" characteristics and more filters.
Improving the expressive capabilities, MPE support lets you explore polyphonic pitch bending among other unique sound-shaping tools. Additionally enhancing the creative potential of this synthesizer, Klevgrand has introduced assignable 'body' patches, allowing you to augment the realism of acoustic models by simulating the natural characteristics of different resonant spaces. A wide range of modes are included from metallic materials to large boxes.
The functionality of Tomofon has been upgraded based on user feedback. The onboard filter can now be switched from the existing low-pass to high-pass and band-pass filters, both with 12dB and 24dB slope options.
It's not just the sound that's been enhanced, the functionality has, too. Now supporting .tun files, Tomofon lets you incorporate unique tunings into your sound design to experiment with non-conventional scales and musical ideas. Moreover, Klevgrand has made several user experience enhancements to Tomofon. The audio model editor now features a zoom and scroll function, facilitating easier handling of models with multiple waves. The curve tool has also received a visual makeover, with a graphical representation of the audio model in the background, enabling intuitive editing and shaping of sounds.
