Dynamics processing made easy
Extremely versatile and comprehensive, X-Comp boasts exceptional performance, specifications and features to provide you with SSL hardware-level processing in your DAW. Delivering mastering-grade audio fidelity with a distinctly analog feel, X-Comp can seamlessly move between transparent dynamics processing to hard brick wall limiting.
Employing a range of traditional controls that you'll find on most compressors, X-Comp delivers them with a twist. X-Comp includes a sophisticated linear knee response between 0 to 40dB with a precise symmetrical design. A rotary control is also available to alter the response between hard and soft, perfect for tweaking your compression to transient-heavy or consistent audio tracks.
The versatility of X-Comp is highlighted with the ability to reproduce the characteristics of many classic compressors including the much sought-after Opto, FET and Vari-mu designs. In X-Comp SSL haven’t just modelled a particular compressor, but have provided a set of features and controls that allow the emulation of a broad range of compressor designs.
Compress only what you need, leave out all the rest
All-encompassing, X-Comp includes a streamlined High and Low Bleed set of controls. These serve to create a selection of narrow-band frequencies to be compressed, leaving the high and low frequencies you've set to be uncompressed. With this tool at your disposal, you can tailor the frequency response of your compression to suit any instrument in your mix, or entire master chains. Frequency-specific compression becomes invaluable when working with instruments which occupy certain frequency regions in your tracks. Using the Bleed controls, you can compress the low-midrange and mid-range of an 808 kick, helping to maintain dynamics while adding the gutteral punch in the mids without effecting the sub low frequencies which can clutter and cloud a mix when compressed.
Everything you need in one place
Special care and attention has not only gone into the sound of the X-Comp plug-in, but into the design and features as well. Delivered in a streamlined interface, everything functions as it should with carefully designed modules and visuals. Not only do you get stereo input and output metering with RMS and peak values, X-Comp provides you with a simple gain reduction meter and histogram to see what effect your processing is having on your track over time. In addition, a real-time graph shows changes to the threshold and knee values and lastly the I/O differences in amplitude can be viewed in the Loud I/O Difference Graph to view how often each level occurs within the signal.
Functionality has not been spared for the sake of versatility, sound or interface design. With X-Comp, you have access A/B switching to quickly audition two settings simultaneously. Perfect for finding the right sound in a mix without dialling in settings from scratch. Once you've crafted a sound you're happy with, save it and come back to it later in future sessions using the preset manager library.
